Good morning Year 2. We hope you enjoyed your weekend and we look forward to seeing you on Teams this morning.

This week, I have swapped our DT lesson again which is normally today with our Science lesson on Thursday.  This is beacuse our DT lesson will be based on our book Giraffes Can't Dance which we will read this week.

Monday 1st March 2021

Today we will be learning the alternative spelling patterns for /ch/ sound.

e.g. ch as code for /ch/ as in child; ch as in code for /sh/ as in chef;  /ch/ as in code for /k/ as in school;

Watch the videos below:

Phonics

Complete the alternative spelling pattern sheet for /ch/

Ask an adult to read the instructions to you (see below and the sheet).

1) underline all the different spellings for the /ch/ sound in the word list.

Practice reading all the words in the lists (sound out and blend) to yourself first. Then read them to an adult - tick the ones you read correctly.

2) Underline all the different spellings for /ch/ sound in the passage (text) . Then read the text.

3) In the last box, write a sentence using a word/words from the lists and draw a picture to go with it (illustrate it).

Challenge:

Choose a word from each list and write a sentence for each one.

Remember to use joined/best handwriting, a capital letter at the beginning of your sentence, word spaces and a full stop at the end of your sentence.

Support – To focus on one or two alternative spellings.

English

T: To box up for purpose

In this lesson you will complete a spelling activity.  You will learn how to use the apostrophe to spell the contracted forms of should not, could not and would not.  You will then practice speaking through the opening of your very own story, before learning how to box it up.

Watch the lesson video in the link below and complete the activities within it.

I look forward to seeing the boxed up opening scene of your own story.

Support -This video has step by step completion of the activities. You can pause it at any point. Try completing one activity at a time.

Challenge - What language do you want to include in your writing?  Circle three of your favourite words.  Can you add any more interesting words?

Reading

T: To predict what will happen in a story.

Today we will be starting a new book called Giraffes can't dance, which I have chosen because of it's links to our topic Kenya.

Look at the front cover and the first page of the story.  Use these to predict what you think this book is about.  I have attached two different worsheets to support your learning.  Choose one to complete.  You can recreate it yourself.  You do not need to print them out.

Maths

Complete the flashback activity below:

Flash Back

T - To Count faces on 3-D shapes

Watch the video lesson below and complete the work sheet.

Support - Focus on questions 1 - 4

Challenge - Complete all the reasoning questions on the worksheet, then have a go at the 'True or False' (T or F) question to make you think!

Science

T - To know what a habitat is.

In this lesson, we will learn what a habitat is and look at examples of habitats. We will also build simple food chains of organisms that live in woodland, pond and savannah habitats.

For most children today, you do not need to print out the worksheets attached.  Draw your own pictures and use words to show your habitats and food chains.

Support - I have attached a separate worksheet to support your learning today. If you are able to, it would be beneficial for you to this print out.  Alternatively you could rearrange the pictures in the word document.

  1. Cut out the pictures and stick them in the correct habitat.
  2. Cut out the pictures and order them correctly to show the food chain.

Challenge:

Can you think of any other habitats?  What animals live in those habitats?

Music
